Ronan Bennett

Ronan’s screenplays include PUBLIC ENEMIES,
directed by Michael Mann and starring Johnny Depp;
THE HAMBURG CELL, directed by Antonia Bird,
about the men who planned and carried out the
9/11attacks; LUCKY BREAK, directed by
Peter Cattaneo; and FACE directed by Antonia Bird.
Among his television credits are the BBC
series 10 DAYS TO WAR, broadcast
to mark the fifth anniversary of the invasion of Iraq;
LOVE LIES BLEEDING; REBEL HEART; and the
eco – thriller, FIELDS OF GOLD . He is the author
of five novels and two books of non- fiction,
including THE CATASTROPHIST (1998) and HAVOC,
IN IT’S THIRD YEAR (2004 winner of Irish
Novel of the Year). His latest novel,
ZUGZWANG (2007), appeared first in serial
form in The Observer over thirty  weeks in 2006.
He has written short stories and plays for
BBC Radio, and his memoir, FIRE AND RAIN
(BBC R4, 1994) won a Sony Gold Medal.
He contributes regularly to newspapers and
periodicals on subjects ranging from the war in
Iraq, the Irish peace process, miscarriages
of justice, the soaring rated of child imprisonment
in the UK, chess and food.
